It took me about 15 minutes to write and test these titles. Sometimes I tested small (changing 2 to two) and sometimes I rewrote the entire phrase. But what I discovered using Glyphius was that even a seasoned copy pro like me can seriously benefit from a purely statistical analysis of what works and what doesn’t.

A few weeks ago, I saw Glyphius mentioned in Brian Clark’s Copyblogger. Not a huge amount of difference between the two ad sets. But when you can consider that in the B2B world, each customer can represent several hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual and/or lifetime revenue — your client cares about even 1/10th of a point difference in response rate and it’s your job to make your copy deliver.

CRAZY making me money!

I thought that might get your attention. If any of you have been around WF for longer than a day or two you have probably had the opportunity to read one of James' postings. James has a few products he sells and he has a blog. He is a bit of statistician. He likes to test things... surely you test things- your sales letters perhaps?

Anyway, James has been doing some tests and publishing the results in his blog and I took some of his results and I applied the knowledge gained to one of my product sales letters and I improved my conversion rate from about .5% to 4.5% - that's a 900% improvement for the math challenged and there was no change in the composition of my traffic.

Granted, I am just a beginning copywriter. I haven't been doing this for very long but I know gold when I see it.

Basically, I incorporated his results as follows:

1) I took a 15 page sales letter and made it 5 pages.

His tests indicate that short sales letters convert better than long sales letters with the ideal being 3 - 5 pages long.

2) I chose #000080 as the headline color.

His tests indicate that this is an ideal headline color.

3) I ran every headline and body paragraph through his product, Glyphius, to improve the scoring of the text.

Some were improved significantly, some were already scoring decently.

And I now convert 1 in 20 visitors and it only took me an hour to do. What you should walk away from this posting thinking is are you converting every visitor effectively? If you are a beginning copywriter I think James test results and software can benefit you greatly. Consider the difference between converting 5 people per week and 45. It's huge. Best of all, James has foolishly shared his test results in his blog so you don't need to pay him anything to potentially improve you conversion rate but once you get a taste you will probably want to give Glyphius a try. I recommend it.

Also, keep in mind, I made many changes at once so I can't give you a breakdown of what effect each of the changes had - only the aggregate effect and this is not the proper, scientific approach but the result speaks for itself.

I'm not the kind of guy who likes to run around giving testimonials and I don't stand to make a dime from this posting. The reason I was driven to post is I noticed when James tries to help people improve their sales letters and headlines he inevitably gets attacked by someone. People absolutely freak out when they realize he is using a piece of software to improve sales conversions. They can't believe software can tell you how to write a better sales letter.

I believe. I like to call Glyphius "Gary Halbert v1.0" Don't misunderstand, you still need to understand the basics of copywriting but James' tests and Glyphius really do make a difference."
